Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to our most commonly asked questions:

How do I get to Knit Works London?
You can click ">here to get directions from Google Maps.

We are about 10 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube station, which is on the Central Line.
From the station, walk east along Roman Road until you get to Palmers Road which will be on your right, with Palmers Restaurant on the corner.
Knit Works London is on the ground floor of the grey building on the east side of the road - look for our neon sign!
You can also get bus 8 or D6 from Bethnal Green tube for a few stops along Roman Road if you'd prefer not to walk.

We are also about 10 minutes walk from Mile End tube station, which is on the Central and District lines.
From the station, cross over Mile End Road and Grove Road, then you can walk either through Mile End Park or along the canal towpath up to Roman Road.
When you get to Roman Road, which is on a bridge over the tow path, turn left, then Palmers Road will be on your left.

Is there parking?
On street parking here is for residents only. We do not have parking scratchcards to give out.
There is a small car park further east along Roman Road by St Stephens Road at E3 5LY. This is about 10 minutes walk away.
Alternatively there is another carpark a similar distance away, in Victoria Park off Grove Road.

Do you offer a student discount?
Yes, we offer a 10% student discount in store only.
Check out the discount codes on the posters in your university for online sales. And if there isn’t a poster – let us know and we’ll send one!

Can you do same day or next day delivery?
No, but if you’re in London and you’re in a hurry, and can’t come into the shop, you can order your yarns for Pickup, and send your own courier round to pick them up during our opening hours. We just need an hour or so to get your order ready.

Do you sell larger quantities than the cones in the shop or on the website?
Yes!
We mostly sell yarns wound off onto smaller sample cones, to make it easier and more affordable for people to have a variety of colours, textures and thicknesses.
But we can also cater for customers who want larger quantities. We may need to order these in for you, so give us as much notice as you can.
Pop into the shop, or email us to discuss.

Where’s my order?
We dispatch orders Monday to Friday. We send them using Royal Mail Tracked 48.
You will be emailed with a Royal Mail tracking code once your order has been dispatched. Check your junk folder for this email!
All the O’s in the tracking number are really zeros, so make sure you’re entering those.

Can you give me your phone number?
No. Please email. Our admin days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and we’ll try and get back to you then.

Do you know somebody who…?
We are often asked for our contacts, or recommendations for manufacturers or people to work with.
Unless we know you well enough to vouch for you, we do not give out this information, in case it sours the relationships we have built within the industry.

Can I pick your brains about…?
You’re always welcome to come into the shop to discuss our yarns and how to knit with them.
If you’ve booked a class, there’s plenty of 1-to-1 time to ask questions about the techniques that you’re learning.
If you have a particular query, we offer a consultancy service, where we offer expert advice to solve your problems. This costs £60 per hour, with a minimum charge of one hour. This can be online or in person. Please email us to book.

Do you buy or sell machines?

Can you make me a jumper?
Yes, we do take commissions.
Please consider design, yarn type, colour, knit techniques and finishings and when you need it for.
Once we have a clear idea of the details, we can give you a cost estimate, which will depend on how long it will take us to make.
Be warned though the price reflects the garment being a bespoke garment, handmade from the finest yarns, so the cost will not be comparable with that of a mass produced garment from the high street.
We charge £50 per hour for making garments. A simple jumper might take a couple of days.

Can I hire a machine to take home?
No. We need to keep them here to make sure they’re well looked after and used properly. You can book machines to use here on our website.

Do you sponsor students?
We have in the past sponsored students who have been good customers and with whom we’ve built a relationship. We are a small business though and this comes straight out of our pocket.
We’ll always prioritise students who are regular customers and friendly with the team here, so please don’t be offended if you are not successful.
If you’d like to apply for sponsorship for your final collection, get in touch in December with your CV, examples of your work, and link to your socials.

Have you got any jobs going?
Sometimes we do. If jobs are available we will advertise on our social media. To apply, please send your CV, examples of your work, and a summary of your technical skills.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us!
