1. Our Commitment to Safety
At Knit Works London, we take the safety of our customers seriously. All our products are designed for their intended purpose and meet the highest standards required by UK and EU law.
We provide clear, transparent information about our yarns and how to use them safely. If you are ordering from the EU, you can also find details of our EU Authorised Representative below.
2. General Machine Knitting Safety
Machine knitting can be safe and enjoyable if basic precautions are followed. Please adhere to the following guidelines:
- Pay attention to what you are doing.
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for each machine.
- Tie back long hair and avoid wearing loose clothing or jewellery that could become caught in the machine.
- Needles are sharp. Don’t touch them when they’re in the machine – only use suitable tools to move them.
- Make sure the machine is securely clamped to a table to stand.
- Try and keep good posture and avoid hunching over the machine. Take breaks and stretch your back and shoulders if possible.
- Keep fingers and tools (scissors, needles) away from moving parts.
- Ensure your workspace is well-lit and free from clutter.
- Supervise younger users and never allow unsupervised children to operate machines.
⚠️ Following these guidelines reduces the risk of injury but does not eliminate all hazards. Use your knitting machine responsibly.
3. Yarn Safety Overview
All Knit Works London’s yarns are carefully sourced and meet international safety standards, including OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification and REACH certification regarding dye safety.
Fibre Content: The product page of each of our yarns on the website lists their fibre composition (e.g., 100% wool, 60% wool 40% cotton, etc).
Flammability: Wool is naturally fire-resistant; blends may be less so. Keep yarn away from naked flames.
Dye Safety: All dyes comply with EU safety regulations. Some colour bleeding may occur when rinsing finished items—wash hands after contact. In rare cases, contact with dyed yarn may cause skin irritation.
