Where To Get Your Knitting Machine Repaired or Serviced?

If you’re looking to have your knitting machine repaired or serviced, here are our suggestions.

Maybe you’ve got an old machine that hasn’t been used in a while that you’d like to get up and running. Maybe you’ve been using a machine and making a weird noise, or something’s not working properly.

I’m George from Knit Works London. We’re machine knitting specialists, and we’re often asked if we repair machines. We sell online and in store an amazing range of yarns for machine knitting, teach classes, and hire out machines, but we don’t repair service other people’s knitting machines, or sell replacement parts. So here’s our advice.

So, the most common problems with knitting machines is that the sponge bar has perished, needles are bent or rusty, and the moving parts have seized up. And the good news is that you can often fix these problems yourself, with some basic maintenance tasks.

Check out our video about the basics of maintaining your knitting machine. This covers removing the sponge bar, replacing needles, unjamming the carriage and oiling the moving parts. So that might well be enough to get an old machine up and running.

We also teach knitting machine maintenance classes, where we go into more detail about cleaning and oiling the machine, and generally making it work well. So check out knitworkslondon.com for details of those.

The best oil to use is sewing machine oil. Please don’t use engine oil or cooking oils. If you need to buy parts, like new sponge bars and needles, you can get these from andeeknits – that’s ANDEEknits.co.uk. They have the best selection.

So if you’ve tried the basic maintenance and that’s not helped, or if there’s something you can see has broken, like the handle has cracked or the carriage has been dropped and broken, then we’d recommend knittingmachinerepairs.co.uk.

They’re based in Norfolk but make regular trips around the country. Or you can send them your machine. They’re really friendly and it’s worth giving them a call to talk through your problem.

So hopefully that’s useful! So once your machine is up and running you’ll want to learn how to use it. So check out the courses at knitworkslondon.com  and sign up to the newsletter there for updates.
